In Mumbai, the CBI has filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh. Singh was working with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on deputation as an assistant director when he was reportedly caught accepting a bribe in August. Singh was leading an ED search team that conducted a raid at a jeweller's home in Mumbai in connection with an alleged money laundering case related to an investment app controlled by Chinese nationals. The ED team from Delhi was handling the investigation, and Singh was not the investigating officer. Following the raid, Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the jeweller, threatening to arrest his son in the case. He instructed the jeweller to send the money to him in Delhi using hawala. Subsequently, the jeweller approached the CBI and filed a corruption complaint against Singh. The CBI set a trap and apprehended Singh after he accepted the bribe in Delhi. Singh's bail application had previously been rejected by the sessions court, and he is currently in jail custody. At the time of his arrest, the CBI seized a phone not registered in Singh's name.
